Two Japanese consultants visited the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) on December 10, 2015.
Dr. Kotaro Kijima of IC Net Limited and Daisuke Suzuki of E-supportlink, Ltd. visited the Council to be apprised on the status of agriculture, fisheries, and the food industry in the Philippines in preparation for the bilateral policy dialogue between the Philippines and Japan.
Increasing food self-reliance by strengthening the food value chain of the two countries will be the focus of the bilateral policy dialogue as part of the Joint Declaration adopted on June 4, 2015.
Dr. Edwin Villar, Deputy Executive Director for Research and Development (R&D) presented the Council’s Industry Strategic Science and Technology (S&T) Program (ISP), while Dr. Melvin Carlos, Director of the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD) explained how the Council facilitates the use of its research outputs and that of their implementing agencies.
Dr. Leah Buendia, Director of PCAARRD’s Policy Coordination and Monitoring Division (PCMD) presented the Council’s capacity building activities and human resources development programs conducted with agencies and institutions in Japan, as well as how the Council supports the National Agriculture and Aquatic Resources Research Development Network (NAARRDN) on these concerns.
The Japanese visitors were apprised on PCAARRD’s technology transfer process, and how the two countries could gain mutual advantage through an expanded network.
