Students and graduates of agriculture, forestry, and natural resources (AFNR) courses can now avail of microfinancing assistance. Through PCARRD’s national program on ‘Enhancing the demand for AFNR graduates through science and technology (S&T), budding ”technopreneurs” can now have their start-up capital through the ‘DATBED-like’ component of the program.

“If we maintain our gains for the next two years, we will overcome our present difficulties and sustain continued development. It can be done and we can do it. All we need is the confidence to move forward”.

PCARRD Deputy Executive Director for Research and Development (R&D) Danilo C. Cardenas, and Socio-Economics Research Division (SERD) Director Albert P. Aquino were conferred the 2010 University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) College of Agriculture Alumni Association Award and College of Economics and Management Alumni Association Award, respectively, during the recently concluded 92nd UPLB Loyalty Day celebration. 

The Philippine Agricultural Economics and Development Association (PAEDA), in collaboration with PCARRD and the University of the Philippines Los Baños-College of Economics and Management (UPLB-CEM), conducted the “Training-workshop on advanced socioeconomics research methodologies” recently at the CEM Multipurpose Room in UPLB.

PCARRD handed out the 2010 Pantas and Tanglaw Awards to those who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of agriculture, forestry, and natural resources R&D during its recently concluded 38th anniversary celebration held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.

The Council presented its directions for 2011─2016 at the 8th National Joint Regional Research and Development Coordinating Committee (RRDCC) Chairpersons and Consortium Directors’ Meeting held recently at One Tagaytay Place in Tagaytay City.

Magsasaka Siyentista (farmer-scientist) Victor Hernandez conquered the feathery mottle virus (FMV) in his sweetpotato farm in Brgy.Parang, Bagac, Bataan. He did this by adopting science and technology interventions that come with the establishment of PCARRD’s Science and Technology-based Farm (STBF).

Caaninaplahan, Talavera, Nueva Ecija ─ Instead of losing hope and being distressed over the destruction of his Science and Technology-based Farm (STBF) on off-season tomato, Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) Reynaldo Hilario saw a window of opportunity open. He shifted to cucumber production.

Magalang, Pampanga ─ Lahar covered Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) Oscar Baluyot’s farm and it became barren for some time. But with PCARRD’s Science and Technology-based Farm (STBF) Project, his land is now teeming with sweet tamarind.

The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) recently conducted a regional integration and sustainability planning workshop for the project “Enhancing the demand for agriculture, forestry and natural resources (AFNR) graduates with high science and technology (S&T) for Zamboanga Peninsula state universities and colleges (ZAMPENSUCs)”. 

As a cooperator of PCARRD’s Science and Technology-based Farm (STBF), Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) Rosario P. Castillo of the Balungao Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center in Pangasinan practices proper goat management.

“This convention shall further emphasize PCARRD-DOST scholars who assume leadership roles in S&T (science and technology) development. Your greater participation in strengthening research capacity is highly needed using technologies and approaches that are socially and economically relevant”.

Dateline Manila – “You are the key players in our tech transfer program”, said PCARRD’s Executive Director (ED) Patricio S. Faylon, addressing the Regional Coordinators of the Techno Gabay (RTGC) and the Applied Communication (RACC) Programs assembled at the Bayview Park Hotel on December 1─3.

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) bestowed PCARRD the Outstanding Research Partnership Award on December 7 at Patacheru, Andhra, Pradesh, India.

The awarding ceremony was part of ICRISAT’s weeklong celebration of its 38th founding year.

Representing PCARRD, in behalf of the Council’s Executive Director Patricio S. Faylon, was Planning and Development Division Director Leah J. Buendia.
