A writeshop sharpens agri-aqua technology transfer officers skills on preparing and packaging of project proposals for funding in CY 2019.
The participants were from different state universities and colleges (SUCs), government agencies, and the private sector around the country.
Organized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), the training titled “S&T Community-based Farm (STCBF) Proposal Packaging Writeshop,” was held on August 22-24, 2018 at the William D. Dar Hall, PCAARRD, Los Baños, Laguna.
This batch of prospective STCBF proponents are expected to produce project proposals that will help meet the targets of the commodities under the Industry Strategic S&T Program (ISP).
The commodities include coffee, bamboo, industrial tree plantation (Falcata, Gmelina), sweet potato, native chicken (ZamPen and Darag), native pig, and coconut. These commodities are expected to have ready and mature technologies for showcasing and transfer through the STCBF modality.
The STCBF aims to address the gaps in production of a community of farmers through S&T-based interventions and push agro-based products from the communities to the markets.
Representatives from the state universities and colleges (SUCs), national government agencies, and the private sector participated in the writeshop.
The participants included the Bohol Island State University (BISU), Isabela State University (ISU), J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), Marinduque State College (MSC), Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), Samar State University (SSU), Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), West Visayas State University (WVSU), Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau-Forest and Timber Resources Research Center (DENR-ERDB-FTRRC) and Philippine Coconut Authority-Region IV-A (PCA IV-A), and the Panay Darag Chicken Breeders Association (PADABA).
Mr. Noel A. Catibog, Officer-In-Charge of the PCAARRD-Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD); Mr. Jose Tomas M. Cabagay, TTPD Assistant Director; Mr. Joel Norman R. Panganiban of the Crops Research Division (CRD); Dr. Marcelino U. Siladan of the Forestry Research Division (FERD); and Engr. Romeo P. Santiago of Agricultural Resources Management Research Division (ARMRD) served as the writeshop resource persons.
Dr. Renato L. Lapitan, University of the Philippines Los Baños, College of Forestry and Natural Resources (UPLB-CFNR) Professor, acted as external evaluator.
To date, a total of 33 STCBF projects in 18 commodities under the PCAARRD-ISP have been implemented across selected municipalities in 13 regions.
The commodities featured in these projects were coffee, rice, mango, vegetables, jackfruit, cacao, rubber, coconut, abaca, bamboo, dairy buffalo, native chicken, goat, seaweed, shrimp, sea cucumber, and tilapia.
Around 2,304 farmers and fisherfolk have benefitted from the 30 component and bundled technologies transferred through 160 farmers’ trainings, IEC materials, and various promotional activities of the projects.
