A cookfest was conducted during the Western Visayas Agriculture Aquatic and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVAARRDEC) Farms and Industry Encounters through the Science and Technology Agenda (FIESTA) at Capiz State University (CapSU), Roxas City, Capiz.
Held on April 9, 2019, the cookfest was divided into a student and a chef category.
Students from Capiz State University Mambusao Satellite College (CapSU-MSC), Capiz State University Sigma Satellite College (CapSU Sigma), Capiz State University Main Campus (CapSU Main Campus), Capiz State University Dumarao Satellite College (CapSU Dumarao), and Western Visayas State University (WVSU) participated in the student category. Each group was tasked to prepare a main dish utilizing Darag Native Chicken, a side dish featuring bamboo, and a dessert featuring muscovado sugar and mango.
Meanwhile, chefs and culinary enthusiasts from WVSU, CapSU Sigma, CapSU Dumarao, CapSU Main Campus, and Capiz State University Pillar Satellite College (CapSU Pillar) joined the chefs category. Each of the participants was tasked to prepare a dish using Darag native chicken.
A poster making and quiz bee contests were also conducted simultaneously with the cookfest. These pocket events are part of WESVAARDEC FIESTA's goal to promote Darag native chicken, bamboo, muscovado sugar, and mango in Western Visayas.
