A comprehensive and enriching three-day training and workshop on Technology Transfer Modality-Based Programs and Projects was conducted at the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Batac, Ilocos Norte.
Held on November 21 to 23, 2023, the activity was participated in by 27 dedicated extension and deployment practitioners from 15 Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) in Luzon.
The training event was organized by the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD) of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD). It marks a key step in strengthening the capacities of CMIs.
The overarching goal was to empower participants in crafting technology transfer proposals that were seamlessly aligned with the Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda (HNRDA) and the DOST-PCAARRD Industry Strategic Science and Technology Program (ISP).
Dr. Love Grace D. Campano, Knowledge Management Coordinator under the Regional Information, Communication, and Technology (RICT) Cluster of the Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC), welcomed the participants on behalf of ILAARRDEC’s Consortium Director, Dr. Nathaniel R. Alibuyog. This was complemented by an opening remarks and rationale from Mr. Jose Tomas M. Cabagay, Assistant Director of TTPD.
Ms. Yolanda M. Tanyag, Unit Head of Extension and Deployment of TTPD, formally introduced the resource person, participants, and the training team.
Esteemed mentors and resource speakers, including the experienced Ms. Anita G. Tidon, a Socio-Economist and S&T Consultant, guided the participants by generously imparting her extensive knowledge and refined skills in packaging winnable proposals. Likewise, the valuable insights of Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia of the Bataan Peninsula State University and Ms. Maritess R. Raboy of the University of Northern Philippines shared their valuable experiences as former project leaders of PCAARRD-funded projects. They shed light on best practices, challenges, and ways forward in successfully implementing extension initiatives, specifically on S&T Community-Based Farms (STCBF), S&T Model Farm (STMF), and S&T Action Frontline for Emergencies and Hazards (SAFE) modalities.
The participants, having benefited from these enriching sessions, culminated the event by presenting their capsule/concept proposals—a significant milestone indicative of the tangible outcomes of this training initiative. This collective effort not only enhances the competencies of the participants but also contributes to the broader advancement of technology transfer initiatives across the region.
As a result of this collaborative effort, DOST-PCAARRD envisions enhanced opportunities for further collaboration with more CMIs. This collaborative spirit is expected to bring science and technology-based interventions to partner communities through meticulously crafted extension and deployment proposals, fostering innovation and sustainable development.
