La Trinidad, Benguet – PCARRD, along with other agencies of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), joined the 2010 Northern Luzon Cluster Science and Technology Fair held at the Benguet State University (BSU) on February 15-19.
Joining PCARRD in the fair were the Food and Nutrition Research Institute; Forest Products Research and Development Institute; Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration; and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Bearing the theme “Responding to global challenges through science and technology (S&T)”, the fair was organized by the DOST-Technological Application and Promotion Institute and DOST offices in Region 1, 2, and Cordillera Administrative Region. It featured different S&T-based products produced in the region.
The fair
Exhibits were divided in two different areas. One featured the different DOST agencies, while the other held a bazaar for DOST-supported small and medium scale enterprises.
The PCARRD exhibit featured its projects on dairy goat, malapapaya, orchid, saba, and agricultural mechanics.
Meanwhile, the S&T bazaar included small and medium enterprises that sold products that include textiles, gift items, crafts, beauty products, furniture, nutrient-enriched food, and local delicacies.
Baguio City Congressman Mauricio G. Domogan was ecstatic and said that “these exhibits show that we are truly using our God-given talents for the good of our country”. Domogan encouraged the exhibitors to continue their work for a better future.
On the other hand, the S&T fair also held seminars on climate change, food safety, waste management, and nutritional status of Filipinos. Robotics competitions and trivia contests were also held.
