“Each of the Industry Strategic S&T Plan (ISP) is not written in stone, but is a work in progress.”
This, PCAARRD Executive Director Patricio S. Faylon said in a meeting with the officials and staff members of the University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Economics and Management (UPLB-CEM).
The meeting between PCAARRD and UPLB-CEM held recently at the Council’s headquarters aimed at firming up the partnership between the two institutions with regards to the ISP.
ISP is PCAARRD’s vision and direction for S&T for the agriculture, fishery, forestry, and natural resources sectors. Specifically, the plan describes the targets for each industry and pinpoints the aspects of the industry where S&T will make a difference. Moreover, the ISP encapsulates and proposes how the vision can be realized.
The two institutions agreed to collaborate on policy analysis and advocacy on renewable energy and food safety of products covered in the ISPs; capability building and R&D on entrepreneurship and technology transfer; and co-publication of R&D results and other references on socioeconomics.
“PCAARRD is open to new ideas that would facilitate the implementation of the ISPs. We request UPLB-CEM to act as the “big brother” to the Council’s partners in the regions,” Faylon said.
Dean Isabelita Pabuayon of UPLB-CEM announced that two new centers, the Rural Economic Development and Renewable Energy Center and the Agribusiness Center for Entrepreneurship, would provide additional support for the UPLB-CEM-PCAARRD partnership.
