The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) Acting Executive Director Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora was given the Honorary Fellow Award by the Crop Science Society of the Philippines (CSSP). The award was given during the 24th Federation of Crop Science Societies of the Philippines (FCSSP) Scientific Conference held on June 15, 2017 at Diversion 21 Hotel, Iloilo City.
CSSP is organized to promote human welfare through the discovery and dissemination of knowledge concerning the nature, utilization, improvement, and interrelationships of plants and their environment and the people. Every year, the society holds a scientific conference and publishes the Philippine Journal of Crop Science.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ebora stressed that the award is a recognition of the achievements of the institutions he has served and not of what he has achieved. He also encouraged researchers and scientists to address the challenges of the Philippine agriculture by being actively involved in R&D and policy making. He also acknowledged his fellow awardee, Dr. Romulo G. Davide for his efforts in the commercialization of technologies of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB-BIOTECH).
Furthermore, Dr. Ebora encouraged the youth to actively participate in the different activities of the DOST and the Department of Agriculture especially in capacity building efforts.
CSSP also awarded Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) with the William D. Dar Award for Research Management; the team of Dr. Nenita V. Desamero of PhilRice with the CSSP Achievement Award in Technology Development; Dr. Antonio G. Lalusin of UPLB with the CSSP Achievement Award in Teaching; and Dr. Hayde F. Galvez of UPLB-Institute of Plant Breeding (UPLB-IPB) with the CSSP Achievement Award in Research.
