Technical staff of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) were recently trained on the science of R&D management.
The training titled, “Training on Enhancing the Capacity of PCAARRD Technical Staff on the Science of R&D Management,” was organized by the Socio-Economics Research Division (SERD) and the Institution Development Division (IDD) of the Council and was held on September 19-20, 26-27, 2018.
The training aimed to improve the understanding on the science of R&D management and capacitate PCAARRD technical staff on R&D packaging and monitoring. This is also a part of the Council’s initiative to tap the expertise of its retirees who will form the PCAARRD Council of Elders (COELs) and to mentor its newly hired staff.
Dr. Danilo C. Cardenas, former PCAARRD Deputy Executive Director for Administration, Resource Management and Support Services (ARMSS), served as resource person and lectured on R&D management process, tools and techniques, proposal packaging, approval and revisions, project management, and monitoring and evaluation.
Dr. Melvin B. Carlos, PCAARRD OIC-Deputy Executive Director for ARMSS, emphasized that the training participants should aspire for relevance, excellence, productivity and efficiency to create impact. He also added that the training was important especially for newly hired technical staff to know the rudiments of R&D management and governance.
A total of 25 staff from the different technical divisions of PCAARRD attended the training.
