PCAARRD joins gov’t agencies and private sector in a bid to advocate sustainable use of Philippine Native Plants

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) joins various government agencies, private sectors, and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in discussing new R&D initiatives and formulate sustainable conservation practices on Philippine Native Plants and help revitalize the Philippine Floriculture industry in a workshop held at Brentwood Suites, Quezon City recently.

Leading PCAARRD are Dr. Jocelyn E. Eusebio, Crops Research Division Director and Dr. Leila C. America, Forestry and Environment Research Division (FERD) Director, who participated in the workshop to deliberate on possible research and development (R&D) for Philippine native plants-derived novel products.

Aside from participating in the workshop, Dr. Eusebio presented the Council’s projects on biodiversity conservation and initiatives to develop biodiversity-based products for livelihoods improvement. In her message, she stressed the need to confer with the industries that could package and sustain the Philippine native plants for the benefit of the community.

The National Symposium/Workshop on the Sustainable Use of Philippine Native Plants is hosted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB) and co-sponsored by DOST-PCAARRD and the Philippine Plant Conservation Committee (PPCC).
