As part of PCAARRD-DOST’s initiative in trailblazing IP management and technology commercialization in the agriculture, aquaculture, and natural resources (AANR) sectors, a training on Technology Valuation and Technology Transfer modes was held at the Bulwagang Panday Karunungan, PCAARRD, Los Baños, Laguna on December 4-5, 2014.
Twenty-three researchers from selected regions who have developed or are developing technologies with strong potential for transfer and commercialization participated in the training.
The said training was conducted to further improve the participants’ level of intellectual property (IP) management.
The training focused on the importance of valuing technologies; methods/approaches on technology valuation; and negotiations and licensing agreements.
Experts in the field of technology valuation and other techno transfer modes served as resource speakers. They are Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, Director of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB); Mr. Ronilo P. Violanta, Development Officer III also of BIOTECH-UPLB; and Ms. Perrose L. Commendador, University Extension Officer II of the UPLB Center for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship.
Lectures on preparing a business plan; Commercializing Outputs of R&D through Technology Business Incubators; Cases of public to private technology transfer, Basics of IP Management and Valuation; and Negotiation and Licensing were presented.
Through a workshop, the participants were trained on technology transfer negotiation and licensing.
To date, the Council has already conducted five trainings on IP management benefiting 141 researchers, IP personnel and research managers.
