Goat and sheep breeders, producers, entrepreneurs, experts, and enthusiast from all over the country are expected to gather at the Hotel Stotsenberg, Clark Air Base, Angeles City, Pampanga for the 5th National Goat and Sheep Congress on March 22–24.
Goat and sheep breeders, producers, entrepreneurs, experts, and enthusiast from all over the country are expected to gather at the Hotel Stotsenberg, Clark Air Base, Angeles City, Pampanga for the 5th National Goat and Sheep Congress on March 22–24.
As one of the organizers of the event, the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) will present technologies generated from its projects on goat. The Science and Technology Agenda of 2006─2010 will also be featured.
The Council’s partners, recognized researchers in their own right, will be sharing these technologies at their respective sessions during the Congress. Dr. Ma. Excelsis M. Orden, professor of economics from the Central Luzon State University (CLSU), will discuss the importance of recording the goat farm performance. In addition, Dr. Jovita M. Datuin of the Department of Agriculture in Region 1 will focus her presentation on building an enterprise from goat raising and discuss the Rural Enterprise Development (RED) Program as a technology transfer modality.
On the other hand, Dr. Edgar A. Orden, professor and assistant director of the Small Ruminant Center (SRC) in CLSU, will provide answers to the problems faced by raisers during the summer months through his total mixed ration for goats.
Dr. Jonathan N. Nayga, professor at the Isabela State University and director at the Cagayan Valley Small Ruminant Research Center in Echague, Isabela, will bring the good news about the potential of commercializing artificial insemination (AI) in goats and the concept of making good genetics through AI in the countryside.
Finally, Dr. Carlito Sanchez, professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Southern Mindanao, will tackle the prospect of producing haram-free goats, an initiative directly related to halal.
