In an effort to fast-track the impact of over 600 technologies generated from research and development in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) sector, the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) spearheaded the program, “Enhancing Technology Transfer and Commercialization of Agri-Aqua Technologies.”
The PCAARRD-funded program is composed of five components: technology and business services; e-research and knowledge management; S&T promotion, capacity building; and technology roll out/deployment and strategic partnerships.
Geared with the Council’s mandate on technology transfer, the program provides assistance to research and development institutions and encourages them to share S&T best practices for the benefit of the people.
Through the years, PCAARRD has defined pathways for technology transfer initiatives and categorized programs and projects into technologies best suited for deployment, extension, and commercialization.
PCAARRD’s extension or deployment modalities that include S&T-Based Farm (STBF), S&T Community Based Farm (STCBF), TechnoMart, S&T Model Farm, and S&T Action Frontline for Emergencies and Hazards (SAFE) are carried out in the regions in partnership with the AANR stakeholders in the public, academic and private sectors.
The DOST-PCAARRD Innovation and Technology Center (DPITC) also provides the Council a one-stop hub for technology owners and generators, investors, and other stakeholders.
DPITC equips the Council with a platform to implement projects on capacity building, determining and assessing commercial potential of technologies, protecting intellectual properties, and technology marketing.
