LOS BAÑOS, Laguna ─ PCAARRD showcased the outputs of its R&D initiatives on environment protection and biodiversity conservation as part of the University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Forestry and Natural Resources’ (UPLB-CFNR) celebration of its 103rd grand alumni homecoming and foundation day.
Highlighting PCAARRD’s exhibit were the Biodiversity Information System and Smart Technologies.
The Biodiversity Information System is a database for selected forest ecosystems that will aid wildlife management and biodiversity conservation in the Central Luzon Region.
Smart Technologies, on the other hand, are interactive disaster and hazard management models that copy the behavior of environment parameters that determine fire occurrence and land capability.
Information, education, and communication materials on bamboo production, seaweed industry, urban planting, Jatropha production, cover crops, tree species, furniture and handicraft industries, and watershed management were also distributed in the PCAARRD booth.
Incidentally, the CFNR celebration was themed "CFNR @ 103: Masiglang Pagbabalik". The event also included a trade fair and an awarding ceremony where outstanding CFNR personnel and alumni were honored.
Aside from PCAARRD, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Bamboo Association, Asean Center for Biodiversity, Forest Products Research and Development Institute, Department of Science and Technology Region IV, Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture, and the World Agroforestry Centre joined the celebration.
