PCAARRD’s Applied Communication Division conducted two trainings on effective communication.
The first training was conducted for the Local Government Unit of Los Baños, Laguna on September 28-30, at E.O Tan Hall, PCAARRD, while the second was conducted at Valley Hotel, Peñablanca, Cagayan on November 19-21.
Titled as Training on Effective Business Communication, the training for the local government unit of Los Baños aimed to provide the participants with the basic concepts of effective communication as a tool to promote efficiency in the workplace and in the conduct of information education and communication activities.
The training for the staff and officials of the Department of Science and Technology, Region 2, on the other hand, was titled Promoting Science and Technology through Effective Communication. It aimed to develop the participants’ skills in specific IEC domains to help them communicate S&T effectively.
Both trainings covered a refresher course on grammar, business communication, news and feature writing, photo documentation, and powerpoint presentation.
The quick grammar refresher course aimed to polish the participants’ English communication skills, acquaint them on confusing grammar rules , and improve their writing style particularly in sentence and paragraph construction.
With the training on news and feature writing, the participants aimed to effectively promote important social concerns such as community activities and support important legislative measures through the newspapers and other communication media.
The news and feature training for DOST staff and officials of Region 2 sought to harmonize the communication option of technology generators and science journalists, which difference often times hinder the effective dissemination of technology, information, and knowledge.
Trainings on news and feature writing for both groups focused on effective leads, strong headlines, and proper structure.
Designed to equip the participants with the principles and techniques of effective busiwness communication, the training on business correspondence covered proper letter, memorandum, and email structure and content and the basic principles in achieving a more professional document, which will maximize comprehension, and create a good impression.
The training on photo documentation equipped the participants with the skills of effectively capturing important events through photos by giving emphasis on lights, shapes, colors, and textures, while the lesson on powerpoint presentation integrated art, language skills and technology to achieve an effective presentation.
Twenty three participants consisting of heads and staff of the different offices of the municipal government of Los Baños, Laguna particularly those that attend to health, employment, education, skills training, social welfare, women sector, risk and disasters, and agriculture concerns, among others attended the training.
For DOST Region 2, forty-three management, technical and administrative staff from Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Viscaya, and Batanes participated the training. Twenty of these participants are engaged in technology transfer and commercialization, promotion and other activities.
