A staunch partner of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development, Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) was recognized during the opening rites of the 2018 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).
Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, President of the Visayas State University (VSU) and Chair of the Regional Research and Development Coordinating Committee (RRDCC) of the Visayas Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Program (ViCAARRP) received the Outstanding Science Administrator Award (Dioscoro L. Umali Medal) from DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, during the opening rites of the 2018 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
Dr. Tulin was recognized for his strong leadership as president of VSU. His stewardship contributes to the attainment of the VSU’s vision of becoming globally competitive by focusing on three growth areas: expanded infrastructures and human development; global competitiveness through creation of strategic knowledge hubs; and submission of the university’s institution and programs for quality assurance accreditation.
Under his watch, VSU became the first university in the country to be awarded Level lll Institutional Accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). VSU was also awarded the Center of Excellence in Agriculture, Center for Excellence in Agricultural Engineering, and Center of Development in Development Communication.
Dr. Carla B. Dimalanta, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, on the other hand, received the Outstanding Research and Development Award for Basic Research (Eduardo A. Quisumbing Medal) in recognition of her pioneering work on the geodynamics of the Philippines. Her work generated the most recent information on the geologic evolution of the Visayan Region.
