The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) won 2 core awards and a major award at the 17th UP Community Broadcasters’ Society (ComBroadSoc) Gandingan Awards with the theme on livelihood and employment issues.
The Lakbay GALING series episode on Chemical Pesticide-free Integrated Backyard Farming in Bulacan won the Most Development-Oriented Women’s Program while the Saribuhay series episode on the DNA barcoding of marine fishes in Luzon and Mindanao won the Most Development-Oriented Science and Technology Program. These are DOST-PCAARRD-funded projects implemented by the Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) and UP Mindanao, respectively.
DOST-PCAARRD, through its Lakbay GALING Series, was also awarded the UP ComBroadSoc’s Choice for Gandingan ng Kabuhayan for its initiative to address needs on livelihood through programs anchored on science and technology.

“Nais ng Good Agri-aqua Livelihood Initiatives towards National Goals (GALING) PCAARRD Program na bigyan ng pagasa ang ating mga kababayan na ipagpatuloy ang kanilang naantalang kabuhayan gamit ang agham, mga kaalaman, at teknolohiya na bunga ng masusi, masinop, matiyaga, at makabuluhang pag aaral ng ating mga mananaliksik mula sa mga pamantasan, kolehiyo, at ahensyang pananaliksik ng ating bansa,” shared DOST-PCAARRD Executive Director Reynaldo V. Ebora during his acceptance speech.
Lakbay GALING and Saribuhay are under the Integrated Marketing Communication Initiative of the Applied Communication Division of DOST-PCAARRD. Lakbay GALING centers its stories on GALING PCAARRD projects and beneficiaries around the country while Saribuhay focuses on popularizing research outputs on the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, particularly, the biodiversity or ‘saribuhay’ in Filipino. Both series are posted on the official YouTube channel of DOST-PCAARRD.

“Maraming maraming salamat po sa parangal na ito ng UP ComBroadSoc, ibinabahagi ko ang parangal na ito sa aming technical research divisions at mga partner agencies sa iba’t ibang rehiyon ng Pilipinas sa ilalim ng GALING PCAARRD Program. Patuloy po nating tuklasin, hindi lamang ang ganda ng Pilipinas, kundi pati na din ang kaalaman at teknolohiyang nagpapayabong sa ating kabuhayan,” said Dr. Ebora as he shared the recognition to all technical research divisions and partner agencies of DOST-PCAARRD.
The Gandingan Awards, organized by the UP Community Broadcasters’ Society, is a student organization-led, university-based annual event that recognizes development-oriented productions and personalities from both local and national media organizations.
The awarding ceremony was held last May 13, 2023 at the DL Umali Auditorium, University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB).
