The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) will once again recognize outstanding researchers and institutions that have demonstrated excellence in the past year through the Science and Technology (S&T) Recognition and Awarding Ceremony that will be held on November 8, 2024.
During the awarding ceremony, DOST-PCAARRD will confer three awards: Ugnay, Best R&D Paper, and Dr. Elvira O. Tan Award.
Ugnay Award, which is conferred every two years, recognizes the efforts of the Regional R&D Consortia as partners of DOST-PCAARRD in meeting the objectives of research and development and the need for technologies in the region. Being conferred an Ugnay Award recognizes the capability of the consortium to formulate and implement policies, strategies, and activities following the principles of integration, complementation, resource sharing, and linkages. Moreover, the award qualifies the three winning Consortia financial incentives to assist them in the realization of their national R&D initiatives.
Meanwhile, Best R&D Paper Award honors the outstanding research and development outputs of the local Filipino scientific community whose work is aligned with the current national research agenda. The award has two categories: research category, which include outputs from the conduct of fundamental basic research, applied research, experimental theoretical development, and/or pilot testing and development category, which includes any outputs of organized work intended to apply and disseminate new knowledge and information, technology, processes, systems, services, machines, and equipment gained from previous research and practical experiences and best practices.
Lastly, the Dr. Elvira O. Tan Award is conferred to outstanding scientists or researchers for their exceptional paper published within the last five years in an International Scientific Indexing (ISI)-accredited local and/or international journal.
DOST-PCAARRD’s S&T Recognition and Awarding Ceremony is held in celebration of its 52nd anniversary, themed, “GÁLING PCAARRD: Excellence in agriculture, aquatic and natural resources R&D for a sustainable future.” The awarding ceremony can be watched via Facebook Live in the Council’s official Facebook page.
