DOST-PCAARRD shares expertise on impact assessment at BISU’s seminar-workshop

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) shared its expertise and experience on impact assessment during the Seminar-Workshop on Impact Assessment organized by Bohol Island State University (BISU).

Themed, “Building Bridges: Leveraging Research and Extension Partnerships through Impact Assessment of Future RIE Endeavors,” the activity aimed to capacitate the research and extension directors, chairs, and focal persons of BISU in crafting systematic, comprehensive, and impact-based research and extension initiatives. It also aims to guide them in reviewing existing research and extension activities to identify opportunities for improvement in their current practices and open avenues for cohesive collaboration between Research and Extension offices in their future endeavors.  

The activity was conducted on May 2-3, 2023 at JJ’s Seafood Village in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

A total of 101 participants (university officials, faculty members, and research and extension personnel from the six campuses of BISU) attended the seminar.

Dr. Ma. Corazon R. Tatad, Research Director of BISU Main Campus, opened the event and welcomed the guests and participants.

Ms. Genny G. Bandoles, Head of the Socio-Economic Evaluation and Impact Assessment Unit (SEEIAU) of DOST-PCAARRD’s Socio-Economics Research Division (SERD), served as resource person for the lecture and workshop.  She discussed impact assessment purposes, components, logic model, approaches, objectives, methods, and generation of impacts through research and extension projects. Science Research Specialists Ms. Mary Grace T. Peñana, Ms. Kristine S. Banalo, and Ms. Janine P. Curibot also shared sample impact assessment studies in the crops, inland aquatic resources, and livestock sub-sectors, respectively. 

On the second day, the participants prepared and presented their planned impact assessment studies on completed and ongoing Research, Innovation, and Extension (RIE) initiativesMs. Bandoles provided comments and suggestions to further improve the participants’ outputs.

The participants also shared their insights and takeaways from the seminar workshop. “It’s a big help for us, especially this activity has indeed changed our views on how to conduct impact assessment,” said the Research Director of BISU-Clarin Campus, Dr. Ramil S. Bulilan.
