The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) held its first Technology Transfer Day at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel, CCP Complex in Pasay City, recently.
With the theme “PROMISE: Promoting Research and Outstanding Milestones in Innovation and Science for Entrepreneurship,” the event was organized to showcase the wide range of Filipino technologies generated through strong partnerships and linkages among scientists, researchers, innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs and industry players.
The DOST councils, its regional offices and research and development institutes put up an exhibition of S&T technologies which are responsive to the needs of the local industry. A total of 75 technologies and their corresponding products were displayed during the one day affair.
The DOST Technology Transfer Day provided an opportunity for investors, enterprises and organizations to get the most out of market-ready technologies in agricultural productivity, industry competitiveness, countryside development, environment and disaster risk reduction management, and quality healthcare.
The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the DOST (DOST-PCAARRD) showcased 12 technologies for commercialization. These include biogroe technology, chevon processed products, carrageenan as fertilizer, loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) diagnostic kit for shrimp pathogens and for porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) virus, genome-based lateral flow strip biosensor quick detection kit against shrimp diseases, semen extender for goat, impeller type compact rice mill, milkfish fry counter, sea cucumber hybrid dryer, pelletizing machine for goat feeds, and package of technologies (POT) for mango production.
The event also provided the venue for the presentation of selected S&T-based technologies from technology generators, testimonials of selected technology adoptors, and negotiations of technology transfer deals with invited potential investors and organizations.
A direct licensing for the commercialization of biogroe, a DOST-PCAARRD-funded project, was signed between the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and All Trade Marketing and Manufacturing. The licensing agreement has undergone the evaluation of the Fairness Opinion Board in accordance with RA 10055 or the Technology Transfer Act.
