DOST-PCAARRD leads LBSCFI’s fund raising seminar

The Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc.’s (LBSCFI) Information Committee, led by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), recently organized a seminar on fund raising.

Titled, “The Art of Asking: A Resource Generation Seminar,” the activity was held at the Medical Arts Building of the Los Baños Doctors Hospital and Medical Center (an LBSCFI member-agency) in Los Baños, Laguna and was participated by 31 representatives from the Foundation’s partner agencies.

The seminar was conducted to impart the basics of fund and “friend” raising; build the members’ skills to start and support the Foundation’s fund-raising endeavors and orient them on their roles in the fund-raising activity through the transfer of the required skills and technology; and guide them in the long-term fund-raising efforts and ensure that these are integrated with the Foundation’s mission.

Tapped to conduct the seminar was Ms. Marianne “Mayan” G. Quebral.

Quebral is a senior development consultant who specializes in fund raising, resource mobilization, non-profit management, and strategic planning with over three decades of experience in progressive leadership roles.

A pioneer in fund raising, Quebral was trained at the Fund-Raising School in Indiana, USA. She has raised funds for UNICEF, Asian Institute of Management, and Save the Children, to name a few. She too has authored two books, “The Fund Raiser’s Guide to Fund Raising” and “Fund Raising 101.”

Also to her credit is her training of more than a thousand development professionals in over 24 countries.

The recent seminar on fund raising is the Foundation’s second. The first was held in 2014, also with Mayan as the resource person.

Aside from chairing the Information Committee, DOST-PCAARRD is also the Foundation’s Secretariat.
