DOST-PCAARRD launches project on the development of the ISP Information System

An information system for the Industry Strategic Science and Technology Program (ISP) of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) is now being developed.

With the aim to make data management efficient, the Commodity Industry Network is being revamped.

The information system will house the Council’s ISPs, which contain the commodity industries’ baseline information, benchmark/targets, sets of S&T interventions, network of implementers, and geographic focus. To date, PCAARRD has ISPs for over 30 commodity industries under the crops, livestock, forestry and environment, and aquatic sectors.

The ISP-IS shall cater to the agency’s internal (ISP Managers) and external users (policy makers, researchers, agri-entrepreneurs, students, and general public) as an effective R&D management tool and information hub.

Funded by DOST-GIA, the project titled, Strengthening of Industry Strategic Science and Technology Program (ISP) Information System for Improved R&D Management will run for 18 months and will be implemented by PCAARRD’s Socio-economics Research Division (SERD). It will also be closely monitored by the agency’s co-sectoral council member, DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).

The information system, which will be an integral part of the Council’s knowledge management initiatives, is intended to have functions that will allow capture, storage, integration, retrieval, dissemination, and simple automated analyses.

To jumpstart the development, an inception meeting was held on July 3, 2019 at the PCAARRD headquarters for the project briefing, leveling off of expectations, and identification of minimum information/data needs and scope of the information system’s functions.

The meeting was attended by the project team and the technical working group (TWG) consisting of division representatives. The TWG will play an active role in the planning and development process of the information system.
