The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) recently convened a transformative three-day training and workshop on Technology Transfer Modality-Based Programs/Projects.
Held at Cebu Technological University (CTU) from December 11 to 13, 2023, the event brought together 25 dedicated extension and deployment practitioners from 18 Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) across Visayas and Mindanao.
The event, facilitated by the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD) of DOST-PCAARRD, aimed to fortify the capabilities of CMIs. Its key objective was to equip participants with the requisite skills to develop technology transfer proposals that are aligned with the Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda (HNRDA) and the DOST-PCAARRD Industry Strategic Science and Technology Program (ISP).
Dr. Archiebald Baltazar B. Malaki, Director for Research and Development of CTU, extended a warm welcome on behalf of President Rosein C. Ancheta, Jr., setting an engaging atmosphere for the proceedings. Mr. Jose Tomas M. Cabagay, Assistant Director of TTPD, DOST-PCAARRD, delivered compelling opening remarks and rationale, while Ms. Yolanda M. Tanyag, TTPD’s Unit Head for Extension and Deployment, formally introduced the distinguished resource persons, participants, and the training team.
The workshop featured a lineup of esteemed mentors and resource speakers including Anita G. Tidon, a Socio-Economist and S&T Consultant whose expertise guided participants in formulating winnable proposals. Former project leaders of PCAARRD-funded initiatives, Dr. Marissa C. Hitalia from Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) and Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia from Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), highlighted successful extension endeavors to include the best practices, lessons learned, issues and challenges, and ways forward based on their hands-on experiences in implementing projects under the S&T Community-Based Farm (STCBF) and S&T Model Farm (STMF) modalities.
Driven by these insightful sessions, the participants wrapped up the event by showcasing their capsule proposals as significant outcomes stemming from this comprehensive training. S&T Consultant Joselito A. Payot, along with resource speakers and senior staff from TTPD's extension and deployment section, subsequently assessed the proposals and provided comments and recommendations for further enhancement.
With this impactful training course, DOST-PCAARRD envisions heightened collaboration with an expanded network of CMIs. This collective spirit is poised to catalyze innovation and sustainable development within partner communities through the possible implementation and funding of the developed extension and deployment proposals.
