DOST-PCAARRD concludes back-to-back Trainings on Proposal Packaging and Journal Writing for its R&D partners

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), through its Institution Development Division (IDD), successfully held two back-to-back training workshops: “Preparation and Packaging of Proposals Addressing the Industry Strategic S&T Plans and Programs (ISPs)” and “Technical Writing for Publication in a Refereed Journal.” These workshops were held from September 9-13, 2024 at the Technopark Hotel, Greenfield Parkway, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The workshop focused on preparation and packaging of proposals was tailored for project managers, technical staff, and members of the PCAARRD consortium involved in priority commodities within the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources sectors. Designed to retool, enhance, and deepen participants' knowledge in project proposal development, the training covered crucial areas such as situation analysis, project design using a logical framework matrix, budgeting, and proposal packaging.

The five-day workshop was attended by 23 participants representing 11 different agencies, including participants from DOST-PCAARRD. Participants were divided into four groups to develop and present draft project proposals, which were submitted for further refinement and potential funding. This way, the diverse group fostered a collaborative and enriching learning environment.

The resource speakers, led by Prof. Wilfredo B. Carada, Adjunct Professor from the College of Public Affairs and Development at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) included Dr. Rhea L. Gumasing (Associate Professor 2), Prof. Nelson Jose Vincent B. Querijero (Professor 10), and Prof. Mayo Grace C. Amit (Assistant Professor 5). These experts, who have been the Council’s partner for this training for more than five years now,  guided the participants through the intricate process of proposal preparation and packaging, offering insights and practical advice for securing project funding.

Meanwhile, the workshop focused on technical writing for publication in a refereed journal was attended by GREAT Program Scholars and Thesis Grantee from 10 different study posts and institutions. With Dr. Lily Ann D. Lando serving as the resource person, the workshop focused on honing participants' technical writing skills, with a specific emphasis on preparing research for publication in both local and international journals. The five-day training culminated in the submission of draft manuscripts by all 15 participants, marking a significant milestone in their research journeys and contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge through potential publication in peer-reviewed journals.
