DOST-PCAARRD champions green economy S&T during NSTW 2024

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) joins the 2024 National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) celebration in Cagayan de Oro City.

Themed, “Providing Solutions and Opening Opportunities in the Green Economy,” this year’s NSTW features technologies, careers, and livelihood opportunities related to the green economy for the people of Mindanao. It is being conducted from November 27 to December 1, 2024 at the Atrium, Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro City.

Research, products, and technologies in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) sector are being showcased by DOST-PCAARRD through S&T exhibits under the sustainability cluster of the science celebration.

A technology forum, "Celebrating the Gains in AANR Sustainability R&D: Technology Forum on Green Economy and Biodiversity," was also conducted on November 28, 2024 at Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. It discussed DOST-PCAARRD-funded projects and technologies on coconut products, native animals, pest management, rubber, and bamboo.

Representatives from the following DOST-PCAARRD Mindanao Consortia participated in the 2024 NSTW exhibits to showcase their R&D and technologies: Northern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (NOMCAARRD) as the Lead; Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC); Western Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC); SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXAARRDEC), and Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (CCAARRD).

NSTW serves as a platform to bring science, technology, and innovation closer to the public, allowing them to experience its essential role in improving the people's quality of life, protecting the environment, and contributing to national development, particularly in poverty alleviation.
