In support of the improvement of aquaculture and fisheries in the country, the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) granted financial support to Dr. Marieta Bañez-Sumagaysay, Executive Director of the DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), for her participation in two conferences on aquaculture and fisheries where she presented a poster and a paper in Bangkok, Thailand on August 3-10, 2016.
Dr. Sumagaysay presented her poster titled The Food-Water-Energy Nexus Perspective: Women’s Take for Fisheries Security at the 6th Global Symposium on Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries (GAF 6) during the 11th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum (11th AFAF) on August 3-7. GAF 6 is a special symposium that aims for women empowerment in fishing and aquaculture through the enhancement of the capacities of stakeholders, the utilization of gender research results, and the implementation of relevant gender-responsive policies.
Sumagaysay presented her paper titled Embracing the Value Chain Framework for Post-Disaster Livelihood Interventions: The Milkfish Industry in a Haiyan-Affected Area in Leyte, Philippines during the FishAdapt: A Global Conference on Climate Change Adaptation for Fisheries and Aquaculture on August 8-10. The papers presented were on vulnerability assessment, responses, and adaptation.
