ZAMBOANGA CITY ─ Two members of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) family, Dr. Anthony M. Sales and Dr. Lily Ann D. Lando formally joined the ranks of the Career Executive Service (CES) at swearing in rites during the 11th Annual CES Conference, held recently at the Garden Orchid Hotel in this city.
Currently, Sales is the regional director of DOST XI while Lando leads the Applied Communication Division in PCAARRD. Both started their CES journeys in 2010 and were confirmed as members of the CES after successfully hurdling the four-stage examination process.
CESOs and managers from all over the country witnessed the investiture rights, while some served as sponsors for the investees. Dr. Edgar Esperancilla (regional director of DOST VIII) sponsored Sales, while Dr. Romulo Aggangan (executive director of DOST-Forest Products Research and Development Institute sponsored Lando.
In his keynote speech, Secretary of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, Mehol K. Sadain hailed the group’s main theme – “Going 4G! Good to Great, Green Governance”.
Sadain said that it combines the quest for excellence and green leadership and comes at an opportune time with the release of the framework agreement on the Bangsamoro.
Sadain added that with this new development, the CES can make a difference especially in the Bangsamoro Transition Authority and in supporting the transition itself. He said that for those CESOs who may be tapped to help ensure the success of the Bangsamoro framework agreement, this is an opportunity that comes but very seldom.
He finally exhorted everyone to “contribute in making the euphoria last” so that eventually we can say with confidence that we are a “Filipino nation with peace, progress, and justice for all.”
Morning exercise sessions supported the adage that “a strong CESO is a healthy CESO”. There were also separate plenary sessions on men’s and women’s health.
Finally, a new set of officers for the National Union of CESO was elected, while retirees were honored. The participants capped their stay in Zamboanga with a guided city tour and a visit to the much-touted barter trade market.
