Advancing Educational Frontiers: PALMS Asynchronous Courses launch at the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week 2023

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) successfully launched the DOST-PCAARRD Advanced Learning Management System (PALMS) during the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) 2023 at the Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo City on November 22, 2023.

PALMS is an innovative online learning platform which transforms the vast array of technology and innovation materials of the Council and its partners into training courses. It provides stakeholders with an unprecedented opportunity to learn at their own convenience.

Featuring 18 asynchronous courses covering a range of topics across diverse domains of agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR), PALMS stands as a comprehensive educational resource for researchers, students and anyone wanting to learn more about AANR.

From November 22 to 26, the PALMS showcased compelling visual artboards, delivering visitors a quick and comprehensive overview of the platform. Thoughtfully distributed informative flyers ensured that visitors were provided with valuable materials to take home and delve deeper at their convenience. To enhance the hands-on experience, visitors explored the PALMS features, peruse available courses, and seamlessly register, create an account and even complete their chosen online course.

Drawing a diverse crowd across age groups and affiliations, the exhibit witnessed a dynamic influx of attendees representing various agencies, schools, and universities. The engaging presentations and interactive displays not only captured the interest of the visitors but also prompted them to extend invitations to their professional networks.

This enthusiastic outreach contributed to attracting a substantial total of 261 new registrants, 179 eager enrollees, and an impressive 67 individuals who successfully completed PALMS courses. In addition, the project actively pursued collaborations with different agencies and state universities and colleges (SUCs) expressing interest in developing asynchronous courses.

The event has paved the way for PALMS to evolve and succeed, offering accessible and innovative education to its stakeholders. Furthermore, ongoing efforts are in place to ensure the continual development of additional courses.
