MiMaRoPa Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (MAARRDEC)


Establishment and Membership
MiMaRoPa Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (MAARRDEC) is the newest R&D consortium under the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council of Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) with ten (10) founding institutions including the six (6) MIMAROPA State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and 3 Regional Line-Agencies (RLAs). The consortium was established on March 12, 2019 with the Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT), now Mindoro State University (MinSU) serving as its first and present host institution.

In mutual commitment to contribute to the national economic growth through agri- aqua and ecotourism development along with PCAARRD in the Regions platform, the consortium recognizes the unique socioeconomic and geographical features of its five island provinces – Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (MIMAROPA) and focuses on addressing specific needs and R&D concerns of the region’s agriculture, aquatic and natural resources (AANR) sector.

A total of twelve (12) Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) provide a joint planning, monitoring, evaluation and sharing of resources. Among which are six (6) State Universities and Colleges (SUCs); two (2) DOST offices; three (3) DA offices and one (1) NGO. Ten (10) of them are R&D implementing agencies while the other two are non-R&D implementing bodies.

The MIMAROPA AANR Sector relies on MAARRDEC for appropriate, science-based, tested and accessible technologies and information.

Mission

MAARRDEC enables and converges appropriate response (ENCORE) thru people- centered and sustainable development initiatives for the AANR sector in MIMAROPA.

Goal

Discover, develop, design and provide science and technology-based solutions for the AANR sector in MIMAROPA.

Objectives

  • MAARRDEC leads relevant agriculture, aquatic and natural resources research, development and extension for a harmonized small-island economy
  • MAARRDEC is strongly committed to empower island communities by increasing their competitiveness through adoption of developed technologies to enhance productivity and growth in the AANR sector.
  • MAARRDEC effectively capacitates human and intellectual capital that properly manages relevant research, development and extension services for the MIMAROPA region.
  • MAARRDEC strengthens linkages by empowering partner institutions in addressing the needs of the communities for sustainable development in MIMAROPA.
  • MAARRDEC is the think tank that formulates, analyzes, advocates and implements policies to address the social, political, economic, and technological needs of the AANR sector.
