WESMAARRDEC

Western Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC)

Establishment and Membership
Twenty years ago, a group of 12 government agencies in Region 9 entered into an agreement to jointly undertake the establishment and management of the regional sectoral research and development consortium for Western Mindanao. This group was named as Western Mindanao Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMARRDEC) with the Department of Agriculture IX (DA-IX) as host agency from 1987-1996. The stewardship of the consortium was passed-on to Philippine Coconut Authority-Zamboanga Research Center (PCA-ZRC) on March 01, 1996. Four years after, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) hosted the consortium up to the present.

For more than 28 years of existence, WESMAARRDEC with its 23 – member agencies have gone a long way in coordinating regional research, development and extension activities from planning, monitoring, evaluating priority programs and related activities, coordinating Research and Development endeavors and providing the AANR sectors in Western Mindanao ready access to appropriate technologies for increased productivity and sustainable development. Likewise, it has developed strategies for the implementation of a dynamic system of research and development and extension management attuned to the development in the region to maximize the generation, verification, exchange and use of research results and information to support regional as well as national development.

In 2015, WESMARRDEC was renamed WESMAARRDEC as the result of unification of Aquatic and Agriculture R&D Institutions into the consortium structure.
