Los Banos, Laguna – A training-workshop on ex-ante economic analysis of research and development (R&D) and technology commercialization projects was recently conducted in this town.
Held at the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), it aimed at capacitating the “champions” involved in crafting the Council’s Industry Strategic Science and Technology Plans (ISPs).
Through the training, the ISP champions, comprised of the PCAARRD staff members from its technical divisions, were equipped with the knowledge and understanding of the concept, principles, approaches, and analytical tools on economic analyses of the science and technology (S&T) programs/projects.
The ISP champions are tasked to lead the conceptualization, formulation, and packaging of ISPs on different agricultural and aquatic commodities.
At the training, they were taught to apply quantitative and qualitative methods for economic analyses of the proposed projects under ISPs. They were also capacitated to measure the potential economic outcomes and impacts of the crafted S&T initiatives for key industries.
Incidentally, the ISPs encapsulate the proposed bundle of S&T initiatives covering various activities under PCAARRD’s four banner programs, namely: strategic R&D, policy analysis and advocacy, technology transfer, and capacity building.
