Binisita kamakailan ng mga kinatawan ng Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) ang mga ‘carrageenan project sites’ sa Pangasinan upang masubaybayan ang ‘bio-efficacy’ ng nasabing ‘plant growth promoter’ (PGP) sa palay.
Kasama ring bumisita ang mga project staff mula sa National Crop Protection Center ng College of Agriculture and Food Science ng University of the Philippines Los Baños (NCPC-CAFS, UPLB), Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1 (DA-RFO 1), DOST Region 1, at Municipal Agriculturist Office (MAO) ng Balungao, Pangasinan.
Ang field visit sa Pangasinan ay isa sa mga gawain kaugnay ng ‘monitoring and evaluation (M&E)’ na isinagawa sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga rehiyon ng 1, 2, 3, 4A, 6, 9, at 11.
Ang proyekto na may titulong “Field Verification Testing of Carrageenan Plant Growth Promotion for Enhanced Growth and Induced Pest and Disease Resistance in Rice and Corn.” ay pinondohan ng Department of Agriculture (DA) at DOST-PCAARRD.
Pingungunahan ni Dr. Gil L. Magsino ng NCPC-CAFS ang proyekto. Layunin ng proyekto na masuri ang bisa at ipakita sa pamamagitan ng ‘multi-location field trials’ ang kahalagahan ng carrageenan bilang plant growth promoter upang mapataas ang ani ng palay.
