The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), in collaboration with Cavite State University (CvSU), conducted the terminal review of the project, "Enhancing the Coffee Food Value Chain through Smart Technologies and Partnerships towards Food Resiliency in Region IV A&B (CALABARZON & MIMAROPA) - Phase Il" on February 11, 2026 at the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC), CvSU in Indang, Cavite.
The activity assessed and highlighted the accomplishments and outputs of the Food Value Chain (FVC) project over the past two years and provides a platform to discuss the ways forward for Coffee FVC initiatives.
Present in the activity are the CvSU’s Coffee FVC (CFVC) Project Leader, Engr. Gerry M. Castillo and his team. Engr. Castillo highlighted the project’s accomplishments and strategies undertaken by the Coffee FVC team to address the various challenges. He also discussed the partnership with various people’s organizations (POs) that served as beneficiaries and key participants in the value chain.

Engr. Castillo also presented the different coffee products produced by the partner organizations and shared the CFVC team’s farm visits to various coffee-growing areas in the country. Among the technologies transferred to coffee farmers were the use of natural fungus from corn kernels as a foliar spray, honey processing techniques, and use of elevated drying beds for coffee.
The project also strengthened the role of coffee farmers in the value chain by enhancing their skills and enabling them to produce market-ready coffee products.
DOST-PCAARRD was represented by Mr. Alexander John D. Borja, Science Research Specialist I of the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD), who gave his welcome remarks and expressed gratitude for the dedication of the project leader and staff who are involved in the CFVC project.

Dr. Engelbert R. Lalican, TTPD’s Supervising Science Research Specialist, added that the project’s output can be used to develop a project proposal that can address the identified problems related to the coffee food value chain.
